Pago de los Capellanes Tinto Crianza 2015

Capellanes’ wines have slowly (& stealthily) become a house favorite of ours! Their style & soft touch with Tempranillo is undeniable. You might recognize the label, as we’ve carried their Joven (entry level) Tempranillo off & on, & really, really enjoyed the wine. This time we’ve stepped things up to their Crianza. And boy is it worth it. This wine sees 2 years on oak, & has a beautiful nose, filled with lush berries, baking spices, cocoa, subtle dirt, & a little violet. Again the palate much more refined & less funky than Tempranillo from Rioja (lacking that leather quality). The wine instead shows you the grape…the soil & the barrel, making for a complex & really great swig. Violet, blackberry, earthy, & very chalky mouth coating tannins.
