Pink, Pink, Pink, Pink

Rose continues to dominate at our store when the weather is toasty.  From the salmon pink stuff in Provence to the ruby colored, spicy roses from Santa Barbara, it's all pretty damn good.  What do you prefer?

Spring GV Tasting

Though we got a bit of break with the heat of Summer arriving a little late this year, it's here now and just like certain seasons make you crave different foods, this heat makes us crave specific grape varietals. Some crave margaritas, gin and tonics or a cold beer, but for us, the goal is a porch with some shade and a cold glass of something crisp like Gruner Veltliner from Austria (sometimes after a margarita, gin and tonic and a beer - depending on how the day went). No one can pronounce Gruner Veltliner so we'll settle on GV for a nickname. Sauvignon Blanc fans should especially get on the Gruner train if you haven't yet. Most Gruners are crisp, light, spicy, complex and affordable. Though this is an ideal grilled seafood pairing, in Austria Gruners are paired with game, beef, pork, poultry and veal. Try it with a grilled pork dish or even fried chicken. It works.

If you'd rather not read about our feelings on Gruner, come taste 4 different offerings for yourself this Saturday from 4-6pm at our first all Gruner Veltliner tasting!

The Curran Grenache Blanc 2006 Has Entered the Building

This is one of the most eagerly awaited releases at CoWineCo every year, dwarfed only by that other offering from winemaker Kris Curran in late May (hint: it rhymes with blee-schmoke).

Well, where to start with this wine.....some have called it "Spring in a glass".... others call it, "that wine that accidentally falls into my tummy by the bottle-full" ... ok, maybe that was us.

Grenache Blanc is one of those varietals you need to taste to appreciate. The aromatics are floral, but light, with a silky texture and flavors of honey and fresh citrus fruit. But a good Grenache Blanc, like Kris Curran's, has that bookend of acidity that always turns a good wine into a real sensory experience if done right. The acidity tingles back in your jaw bone just enough to make you need, not want, but need that next sip.

We're guessing this is the last year you're going to be able to get a wine made by Kris's hands for under $25 and we believe this one is worth every penny. We have limited quantities of this wine so first come, first served. ** $24.99/bottle. What to eat with a Grenache Blanc? Crab. Lots and lots and lots of rich crab by itself or dressed up lightly.

Please RSVP to: info@cowineco.com or (323) 478-1985

Yes, if any of you aren't having your own Lemur Day celebration at home, you should come out and join our annual Lemur Day wine tasting tonight.  Lemur Day is an ancient holiday of the Roman Empire during which the ancient Romans performed rites to exorcise the malevolent and fearful ghosts of the dead from their homes. Unfortunately, the poor little Lemur, looking and sounding spooky as it does, was co-opted for their festive purposes.

Lazy Sunday Mother's Day Tasting

Sunday the 13th

1-4pm

$12/person

4 wines and gourmet cheeses from Auntie Em's Marketplace

Our Sunday tastings will now feature slightly higher-end wine selections. Our Friday tastings get a little too loud to discuss the wines in great detail (we're not complaining), so if wine knowledge is your grail, Sundays are the best tastings for you. Call or email Sunday for selections.
