Pink, Pink, Pink, Pink

Rose continues to dominate at our store when the weather is toasty.  From the salmon pink stuff in Provence to the ruby colored, spicy roses from Santa Barbara, it's all pretty damn good.  What do you prefer?

Mirth Chardonnay 2008
Yakima Valley, Washington - $10.99/btl

July, 2009

So, we're going to cut to the chase on this one because we just tasted advanced samples yesterday and it simply can't wait.  Ok, here goes...this is the best wine deal we've found in two years.  There, we said it.  Our friends at Owen Roe in Washington (Abbot's Table Red, Ex Umbris Syrah, O'Reillys, Sharecropper, etc.)  have launched a new line called Corvidae Wine Company which, amongst other amazing deals, includes this completely ridiculous chardonnay from Yakima Valley that just blew our minds.  No butter, no barrel, no malo -- all racy, full flavors of Meyer lemon, tropical fruit, and a very balanced, subtle spice on the finish.

And now you're asking, "hey, colorado wine company people, how much will this golden nectar from the gods which will cure all ills cost me?"  And we say to you... $10.99/btl, friends. $10.99.

Corvidae Wine Company aims to make crowd-pleasing wines for under $20 retail.  You'll be seeing more than just this chardonnay on our shelves in the coming weeks, but the chard is by far the best deal for the dollar.

Chardonnay is the most widely planted white varietal in the Yakima Valley which partially explains how the Owen Roe folks got the price down so low, but the real magic in this juice is winemaker David O'Reilly (pictured above) who seems to have limitless abilities when it comes to making sophisticated wines that show off terroir while remaining affordable AND crowd pleasers (which most winemakers would agree is the Holy Grail of winemaking).

"Corvidae" is named for the family of birds that includes crows and ravens. Crows have a long history in folklore and mythology. David was inspired to name the label Corvidae by the many crows that circle the sky over his winery in Yakima.  Oh, David, such a tough life.  Let's swap.
